Earning a Master’s in Nursing Programs in Ohio can lead to great opportunities, especially considering the abundance of both universities and hospitals in the Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati areas. Earning a master’s degree can pave the way for careers in leadership or teaching positions in the field of nursing. Nurses with master’s degrees can continue to practice in clinical settings, although most nurses with advance degrees also accept positions as a nurse practitioner, university professor or a nursing specialist in the areas such as nurse anesthesia, community health, psychiatric mental health, midwifery or gerontological nursing. Once a nurse earns a master’s degree, he or she typically moves from a generalist to a specialist. The following institutions offer accredited and rigorous master’s in nursing programs in the state of Ohio.

Capital University

Department of Nursing

The Department of Nursing at Capital University focuses on holistic practice, with all nursing programs at this institution endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses Certification Program. All students learn to think inward, integrate self-care and personal reflection and develop a sense of compassion and empathy towards others. To accomplish this, class sizes are kept small, with one-on-one support offered whenever a student requests it. Students are also taught skills in cultural competency, social responsibility and leadership. Capital University offers an accelerated BSN, a RN-BSN, a MSN, a post-master’s nurse educator certificate and a post master’s clinical nurse specialist certificate.

Master in Nursing Programs

The Master of Science in Nursing program at Capital University is a post-licensure interdisciplinary degree program that combines education, theology, advanced clinical practice and business law into the nursing coursework. Students prepare for mid-level, upper-level and advanced practice positions in community-based, acute-care and chronic care healthcare systems. Students can specialize in one of six concentrations: nursing education, theology, legal studies, clinical nurse specialist, adult gerontology, administration and legal studies. In addition, there are three options for dual degrees: MSN/MBA, MSN/JD and MSN/MTS.
